TO CHOOSE A MATTRESS

Which is better, a foam or spring mattress?

When asked which mattress is better, spring or foam, one could say that either is a good option as long as it meets the following criteria: firmness, ergonomics, and adaptability.

Therefore, if the mattress is firm enough to provide the necessary support to your body without sinking unevenly and according to the model specifications. If the mattress adapts to your body, helping to eliminate pressure points. If the mattress supports your lower back and also adapts to the shape of your body, aligning your spine, it's a good option.

It doesn't matter if it's 100% foam. Of course, it must have the appropriate weight capacity.

As we mentioned before, if the mattress is spring and firm, it's recommended that it have a pillow top or euro top, to provide greater comfort and better adapt to your body.

What are the mattress sizes?

You may want to know the different mattress sizes in Costa Rica because you want to buy a new mattress. It may also be because you need to adjust your bed or bedspread. In any case, we've created this article to explain the different mattress sizes.

We hope it helps you clear up any doubts and choose the best mattress for you and your family.

How to choose the best mattress?

Buying a new mattress is a process that requires extreme care. Especially since it can be a large investment and can affect your lifestyle, especially since you spend a third of your day sleeping.

Para ello hemos decidido darle los tips que no puede ignorar a la hora de comprar colchón. That's why we've decided to give you the tips you can't ignore when buying a mattress. We care about our customers and want them to be satisfied.

Test the mattress before buying it.

Lie down on the mattress for at least 10 or 15 minutes to help you get a feel for the firmness of the mattress. Don't worry about what other people think or feel uncomfortable. Salespeople know that testing a mattress is part of the process.

Remember you should lie down completely and comfortably; it goes without saying that just sitting won't help much.

Look for a firmness level you're used to.

Something very important: The firmness level doesn't always determine the weight capacity a mattress can support.

Thus, a mattress of medium or soft consistency can also provide the support you need for a good night's sleep.

If you've always slept on firm mattresses and haven't had any issues, buy a firm one. If, on the other hand you prefer a medium or soft mattress, buy one that molds to your body.

Therefore, buying a mattress with a consistency you're used to will make your purchase much easier, and your body will feel comfortable without having to go through a complex adjustment process.

Consider Weight Capacity

Mattresses are made to support different weight levels. Weight is per person.

A Memory Foam Topper

If for some reason you purchased a mattress that's too firm for your liking and you'd like more comfort, purchase a memory foam topper to provide the softness you need.

Toppers are 4-inch memory foam mattresses that are placed on top of a firm mattress.

With springs or without springs

A spring mattress will last longer than one without springs, and the consistency may vary. If your previous mattress had springs, we encourage you to continue sleeping on a mattress with them.

It's also a matter of budget, as springless mattresses may be more affordable.

There are also high-end mattresses like the Chiropractic Plus, which is made of high-density foam and natural latex, providing an unparalleled feel.

What the therapist says

If you suffer from back pain, as we often say, ask your physical therapist for advice. Don't be swayed by the name of the mattress or the price alone; your back and your well-being are worth it.

Don't be swayed by price alone.

We spend a third of our lives sleeping if we're doing well. Rest is that time during which the body recovers from a hard day's work.

Investing in a good mattress will guarantee your well-being and a better lifestyle.

Also, color and appearance are not decisive; remember that your mattress will be covered by a mattress pad and a comforter 99% of the time.

I have lower back problems and back pain

If you have neck or back pain, consult your doctor before purchasing a mattress.

Ask your doctor which mattress is best for you (soft, firm, or extra-firm). Once you know this, test mattresses carefully until you find the one that provides you with the greatest comfort.

At La Colchonería, we have a variety of mattresses that will help you improve your rest and your health.

ABOUT THE WARRANTY

What does the warranty cover?

At La Colchonería, we are committed to improving your rest, which is why we offer a comprehensive warranty and manufacturer support.

Innerspring Mattresses

The warranty covers the innerspring unit. This means that under optimal conditions of use, any damage to the innerspring unit is guaranteed by the manufacturer. The warranty also covers manufacturing defects in the first 6 months of use, such as loose seams or problems with the foam.

100% Foam Mattresses

The warranty covers the foam of the mattress. This means that under optimal conditions, any sagging in the foam is guaranteed by the manufacturer. The warranty also covers manufacturing defects in the first 3 months of use, such as loose seams.

For your peace of mind, we adhere to Costa Rican legislation on consumer rights and warranties in all cases.

Do not take your mattress to the store; wait for our technician to visit. This will save you time and money.

Why doesn't the fabric come with a warranty?

At La Colchonería, we demand the best quality, high weight, and consistency from our supplier, which is why we offer our customers a mattress with the best fabric on the market.

However, since the fabric is the exposed part of the mattress, it is prone to damage from factors such as humidity, excessive heat, objects that tear it, rubbing against rough surfaces, liquid spills, and other elements beyond our control. Therefore, the warranty does not cover these damages.

For fabric care, we recommend following the mattress's usage instructions.

How can I file a warranty claim?

At La Colchonería, we are here to serve you and we love our customers' satisfaction. Therefore, if you need to file a complaint or have a question, you can contact us at postventa@lacorunacr.com, at lacolchoneria@lacorunacr.com, or by phone at 2236-5347, or you can visit us in person.

If you wish to claim the warranty, you must present the purchase receipt, your personal information, and a brief description of the problem.

A technician will contact you shortly to assist you with your case.

What are the conditions for claiming the warranty?

Mattress manufacturers, like other companies, have some exceptions to the warranty on our mattresses , and we also require that minimum conditions have been met when using the mattress:

  • The warranty does not cover fabric deterioration or damage caused by misuse.
  • You must present the purchase receipt for any claim.
  • For any exchange or repair, a technician must first visit you.
  • The warranty does not cover deterioration caused by normal use, meaning it does not cover normal wear and tear from the mattress.
  • The mattress may mold to your body. This may vary between 2.5 cm and 4 cm in the shape of the mattress.
  • You must have followed the usage instructions.

ABOUT USE

I sit on the edge of my mattress and it sags.

This is completely normal, as the mattress is made to support a person's weight, distributed along the length of the mattress. If all the weight is placed on one spot, the springs and foam lower in proportion to the weight.

The important thing is that when the person gets up, the mattress returns to normal.

I lie down and the mattress sags.

When the mattress is medium-low firmness, it is normal for it to react to the weight it must support. Therefore, when you lie down, the mattress lowers, and when you get up, it returns to normal.

A helpful tip is to rotate your mattress every three months so that the body pressure isn't accentuated by the mattress.

Before purchasing a mattress, make sure it's suitable for your weight.

La Colchonería offers mattresses that support from 65 kg per person to 110 kg per person.

I bought a mattress and didn't like it.

Many times when we go to buy a mattress and sit on it to test it, this doesn't guarantee that the mattress has the features we like. It's important to lie on it for a few minutes to experience its properties.

It's also common to choose a mattress based on features such as color or price, which is a mistake, since color isn't the most important factor. Remember, we'll probably be covering it with a sheet. Regarding price, keep in mind that we spend many hours of our lives on our mattress, and that it's a long-term investment. So, to the extent possible, don't go for the cheapest, but rather the most comfortable.

Make sure when you buy a mattress that it offers the firmness you like, and consider aspects such as the foam, the pillow top, and the maximum resistance weight of the mattress.

Remember that we spend a large part of our lives sleeping. Dedicate time and resources to choosing the best mattress.

On the other hand, if you've just replaced your mattress, it's common to feel the difference in the first few days and even miss your old mattress. Give your new mattress a try and wait a few days to adjust. You'll soon see that the change was the best option for your rest and health.

The mattress was included when you bought the bed.

The bed is very important for the lifespan of the mattress.

It's common to find deals on beds with mattresses, which is very convenient. However, make sure the bed doesn't have screws that could break the mattress. Keep in mind that the mattress should be on a hard, smooth surface. Therefore, if the bed has only a few slats or is made of tubes, you should put a smooth slat of wood or other material on it to support the mattress.

My mattress feels like it's springs.

At La Colchonería, we offer mattresses with special and innovative features where you'll never feel the springs in the mattress. However, the market also demands lower-end mattresses that, for their price, are much simpler.

If you have one of these low-end mattresses, you can rest assured that the warranty will always cover the box spring.

A tip to make your low-end mattress more comfortable is to use a quilted mattress cover. You can also use a double mattress cover, or there are affordable quilted mattress covers that are very useful in these cases.

How can I extend the life of my mattress?
  • Never strap your mattress down to transport or store it; this could deform it.
  • Place the mattress on a hard, smooth surface; DO NOT install it on a base made of separate slats or tubes.
  • Do not smoke or leave lit candles near your mattress.
  • Do not exceed the maximum weight capacity of your mattress.
  • Do not leave sharp objects near the mattress that could tear it.
  • Do not spill any liquid on your mattress.
  • Do not wash your mattress.
  • Do not drag your mattress.
  • Cover the mattress with a protector or sheet.
  • Do not jump on your mattress.
  • Do not place hot objects on your mattress.
  • Do not iron over your mattress.
  • Rotate your mattress every three months
